Lenovo has been manufacturing laptop computers, such as the Lenovo IdeaPad Y470 model, for many years. Like any other laptop, these computers are prone to the usual wear and tear over time. The good news is that many of the external components on the Lenovo are removable. This includes the keyboard. So if the keyboard on your Lenovo IdeaPad Y470 is broken or damaged, the process of replacing it is fairly easy.
Turn off your Lenovo IdeaPad Y470 and remove the power cable if it's attached. Open the screen so you have complete access to the keyboard.
Insert the tip of your flat-head screwdriver in the seam between the rectangular keyboard bezel, or frame, and the side of the body of the laptop. The bezel is just above the Lenovo IdeaPad Y470 Keyboard and just below the screen.
Lift the bezel up with your screwdriver and then completely remove it from the Lenovo IdeaPad Y470 Keyboard with your fingers.
Use your Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the single screw, located just above the keyboard, that holds the keyboard in place.
Lift the keyboard straight up by the top and place it face down over the palm rest.
Use your fingers to unplug the single keyboard ribbon cable from where it connects in the middle of the computer.
Remove the old Lenovo IdeaPad Y470 Keyboard from the computer and replace it with the new one. You can purchase a new keyboard from your Lenovo retailer or an online computer supply company. Connect the ribbon of the new keyboard to the port in the computer. Then reassemble your computer in the reverse order you took it apart.
